Artist profile: Rod Menzies

After spending his early working career as a communication technician and then actively worked in the developing solar industry at a state and national level, during this time his design and installation skills, laid the pathway to travelling Australia as a Government Solar installation inspector, following on to several overseas placements as solar installation supervisor for a large international solar module manufacture, and then taking up a position as a training and accreditation manager for the solar industry association.

Rod developed his interest in woodwork after technical school basics to become a self-taught fine wood crafter.

Specialising in fine wooden boxes from Otway’s timbers and utilizing hand skills and tools, crafts a range of wooden pieces, all finished in a natural oil blend to enhance and preserve the wood.

The use and preservation of hand tools and demonstrating their use and skills associated have been a passion and is regularly seen at the lost trades fair and Hand tool Preservation Association demonstrations.

Rod also teaches and demonstrates hand working skills at exhibitions, markets and fares.
